Nikora
Nikora is a mermaid, who also assumes a human form and poses as Lucia's older sister, while the two of them live on dry land. In the human world, Nikora is the founder and owner of Pearl Waters, and Lucia's primary caretaker. In the mermaid world, however... The manga leaves this issue unclear. Nikora appears to be an assistant to Madame Taki, who was apparently charged with Lucia's upbringing when Lucia still lived in the mermaid world. It can be assumed, however, that Nikora is a mermaid of some importance, or at least of high social standing, since she was eventually appointed to be the guardian of the princess.
Nikora is a mature, responsible adult. Which means that she spends a lot of her time yelling at Lucia. ;) Nikora is very strict toward Lucia, but everything that she does, she does for the sake of Lucia's well-being. Nikora is also an important source of information about the mermaid world, since she seems to know a lot more about mermaid society than Lucia does. Although Nikora initially treats Lucia harshly, she also softens up and relaxes as the manga series progresses. Nikora is still a young woman and still likes to have fun; she begins to sympathize more with Lucia as they spend more time together. Particularly, Nikora appears to grow more and more forgiving of the fact that Lucia is in love with a human.
AGE NOTES: Nikora is seven years older than Lucia. Chapter 32 of the manga states that when Lucia was six years old, Nikora was thirteen years old.

Nikora's Powers
Nikora has so far exhibited no particular powers, save for the ability to transform into a human. (All mermaids seem to share this ability, however.) When it comes time to fight Gakuto or his minions, Nikora is always forced to sit back and leave everything to Lucia and Hippo.

Like all mermaids, Nikora has her own pearl. However, Nikora's pearl is not one of the seven "special" pearls that only belong to the mermaid princesses.seashell locket
Nikora keeps her pearl inside of a seashell locket, which she wears around her neck. However, Nikora's locket is simply a plain seashell, without any of the side decorations that can be seen on the lockets of the mermaid princesses. In fact, all normal mermaids (such as Meru, and other mermaids that can be seen in Lucia's kingdom) use the same simple, single-shell locket that Nikora uses.
