Character Information: Sara
Profile & Name
Name notes: "Sara" is written with the kanji characters for "sand" and "silk gauze." The ra character can also mean "net." Since Sara's name is written in Japanese characters, it is incorrect to romanize it as "Sarah." This is not an English name; it is a Japanese name. The Japanese name "Sara" is also pronounced differently from the English name "Sarah." Just to clear that up.Sara does not have an official profile.
Sara
Sara was once the princess of the Indian Ocean. Once, a long time ago. However, she fell in love with a human, and that love ended in tragedy. The human that Sara loved promised to run away with her. Thus, the time for their promised meeting came.... and went. Sara waited and waited, but he never showed up. Finally, Sara came to the conclusion that he must not have returned her love after all. Suddenly overwhelmed with anger, loneliness, and grief, Sara screamed her rage at the heavens, and threw a cataclysmic tantrum that caused a devastating storm to sweep across her ocean.
"All I wanted was to become happy with Mitsuki... I never wanted to be born as a princess!!"
That storm was the storm that drowned Doumoto Kaito's parents, and the same storm in which Kaito and Lucia first met.
During the storm, Sara blacked out. When she eventually woke up again, she was stunned to see that she had utterly destroyed her own kingdom.
Convinced that she was no longer fit to be a princess, and that she could never be loved by the one that she loved most, Sara thought to herself, It would be best if I just disappeared forever. Sara swam away from the ruins of her ocean kingdom, and down into the blackest depths of the deep sea.
Sara swam, down and down and down, until she found a strange castle. A castle, a gate, and a key.
Sara knew who the castle belonged to. She'd heard the stories about the clan that Aqua Regina had sealed beneath the ocean. And there was the key that would unlock the gate of the castle, just sitting there, unguarded, waiting for someone to pick it up...
"I am no longer a princess. I am no longer anything...!"
Sara picked up the key.
And then, from that time onward, I threw everything away... I threw it away, this world of nothing but lies...
The Dark Princess
Sara's one wish was to fill the world with darkness. Gakuto, whose loneliness led him to love her blindly, would go to any lengths to fulfill that wish. Driven by Sara's wishes, Gakuto began destroying the kingdoms of the ocean and hunting down the mermaid princesses, one by one. His first victim was Coco, Sara's loyal friend who refused to abandon her until it was too late.
Throughout most of the manga, Sara remained hidden within the innermost chambers of Gakuto's castle. She only began to reveal herself publicly in the later stages of the manga, and the other Dark Lovers thought of her as "the new woman." However, Sara was not "new." She had been by Gakuto's side all along.
During the final battle between the Dark Lovers and the other mermaid princesses, Sara kidnapped the human who had forsaken her, and dragged him down to the bottom of the ocean. She wanted not only revenge against the world that had treated her unfairly, but also against *him* personally, as well. What Sara did not anticipate, however, was that he was still in love with her... And that he had had good reasons for leaving her behind, so many years ago.
Not Alone
Sara never expected that Mistuki would still be in love with her, that Coco would still try to save her, or that even someone like Hanon would want to count her as a friend. Sara found her moment of redemption, and rebirth, just in time to help stop Gakuto's final stand. In her final moment, she sacrificed herself in order to atone for her sins... And still had time to make one last, final realization.
"There is somebody, right now, who cares about me more than anyone else. Somebody who looked at my hurting, wounded self with the same eyes that Mitsuki looked at me with... I can never leave him."
Gakuto truly loved Sara, with every bit of his heart. Having realized that, Sara threw herself into his arms, and sank with him to the bottom of the ocean.
That was the end of Sara, the former Princess of the Indian Ocean. In the end, she chose Gakuto over the human that still loved her. And now she will sleep forever beneath Aqua Regina's seal, in the arms of the prince that she chose.
Sara's Forms

Sara's "evil" human form. She has black hair and a human body. Sara's "good" human form. Her hair changes back to its original orange color. (first appearance: chapter 20).Black Pearl Voice
Sara appears as the black counterpart of the other idol singers. Her dress, microphone, and pearl are all black. (first appearance: chapter 15).Orange Pearl Voice
Sara's final appearance as her true self (first appearance: chapter 20).
Sara's Items & Powers
There's almost no point in going into the details here. Like the other mermaid princesses, Sara has a pearl, a seashell locket, and a microphone... The colors of her pearl and microphone, however, change when she is evil. Black Pearl Voice does not wear her seashell locket, but in chapter 18, when Sara (in her "evil" human form) reveals her seashell locket and opens it for the first time, the pearl inside is black. Sara also exhibits the power to transform into an idol singer, and that's about it.
After chapter 20, in which Sara is sealed into the bottom of the ocean, she appears to live on as a powerful spirit. Sara can still communicate to the other mermaid princesses via dreams that are very "real" in many ways; in addition, certain panels in the final few pages of chapter 30 seem to indicate that Sara is still alive and listening happily to the singing voice of Seira, her successor.
