I struggled so hard with this layout, going through three different versions of it. Above left is the first version of Pearl Song. Above right is the third version. (The intermediate version isn't even worth putting up here.) What happened? I started by designing the header graphic, and I really, really liked the way that it turned out. (I still do!) In fact, I liked it so much, that I was utterly unwilling to throw it out, even when I just *could not* build a decent layout around it. When I finally forced myself to stop trying to use that header graphic, I was able to make a layout that I liked much better.
And yes, that lovely header graphic looked much better in person, not the way that it looks now, trapped inside these dithered screenshots.
