  Supporting Cast 02

Continuing in rough order of appearance:

Jennifer

A kind, gentle, and infinitely patient woman, Jennifer is the loyal and loving companion that lives with James Callenreese. (I can't tell if they're married or not, but it probably doesn't matter.) Jennifer cares about Ash and treats him with kindness. She is also the only person that seems to truly understand James. "You're lying to yourself," she tells James as she berates him for his coldness toward Ash. "You know you love Aslan."

James Callenreese

Ash's father James initially treats him with only coldness, hatred, and contempt. James struggles to reconcile his love for his son with his disgust for Ash's lifestyle. He's not a very likeable guy at all, and he's done some pretty despicable things in his own life - most of which he reveals as he tells the story of Ash's past to Max, Eiji, and Shorter. In the end, however, James finally shows how much he is willing to sacrifice to protect his son.

Michael

Michael is Max Lobo's son. He's adorably cute and innocent, although he sometimes seems a bit too wise for his age. Michael loves both of his parents equally, and thinks that the feud between Jessica and Max is stupid.

Jessica Landy

Max Lobo's ex-wife greets his return to her home with a locked and loaded shotgun pointed at his chest. In case you couldn't tell, Jessica is feared by many for her legendary temper.

"Max has been an irresponsible jerk for as long as I've known him," she tells everyone as she serves them dinner in her home. "The first time we met was at a shoot for Penthouse. I was the model and he was the photographer's assistant. I ran into him three days later and he didn't remember me!" she finishes angrily.

Jessica now works as an editor for Playwoman magazine, and makes her money by, in her own words, "spreading men's legs open." She's a tough, strong-willed woman who won't even let Ash's teasing get under her skin (much to Ash's surprise and dismay.)

Jessica is too stubborn to reconcile with Max, even though she still loves him. It isn't until extreme circumstances finally force the two back into each other's arms that Jessica is able to surrender to her feelings.

Sonny

Sonny is Shorter Wong's contact in the Chinatown of Los Angeles. He is loyal to Shorter but fears that Hua-Lung Lee will hurt Shorter; Sonny tries to warn Shorter and convince to leave LA, but unfortunately, Sonny's warning is too little, too late.

Image: Hua-Lung Lee. Click for larger image.

Hua-Lung Lee

Hua-Lung Lee is one of the Lee brothers, and the leader of the Chinese criminal syndicate in Los Angeles. The only way to tell him apart from Daai Yan Lee is to note that Daai Yan Lee has a cleft in his chin, and Hua-Lung Lee has a bowl haircut. Other than that, the two are almost identical, both in looks and in personality.

Image: Alexis Dawson. Click for larger image.

Dr. Alexis Dawson

Alexis Dawson is the original creator of the drug Banana Fish, which he cooked up by accident back in his youth, while he and his brother were running their own drug lab in order to make ends meet financially. He was frightened by the drug's potential and threw it away as soon as he could. But his younger brother Abraham secretly saved some of the batch and took it with him to Vietnam...

After Alexis discovered that Abraham was experimenting with the drug on human subjects, he confronted Abraham and reclaimed the stolen sample. "I was going to destroy it," he confesses, "but... I left just a little, to analyze, for research... I'm a scientist, you see. I just couldn't destroy such an intriguing discovery."

This moment of weakness allowed Abraham to steal back the remaining sample and sell it to Dino Golzine.

This list of characters is current up through Volume 07 of the manga. Obviously, there are a lot more characters that appear after that! I'll work on finishing this list someday when I have time.
