Griffin Callenreese

Griff is Ash's beloved older brother, a vegetative invalid since his return from Vietnam, his brain hopelessly destroyed by the drug Banana Fish.

Max describes Griff as a "calm, quiet poet." He loved to write and sent his brother Ash many letters home from Vietnam. He might have been lonely, though - in his letters, Griff said that he trusted Max as his only friend. Griff was also the only soldier who was kind to Abraham Dawson. However, all of that changed after the fateful night that Griffin consumed the drug Banana Fish and went on a shooting rampage, slaughtering most of his unit. Max managed to stop him by shooting his legs out from underneath him, although afterwards, Griff collapsed into a non-responsive, vegetative state from which he never fully returns.

Image: Marvin. Click for larger image.

Marvin

Marvin, lovingly described by Ash as "the fat pig," is an underling of Papa Dino who allies himself with Arthur in order to plot Ash's demise. Marvin lusts after Ash, and when Ash was a child, Marvin filmed kiddy porn movies of him repeatedly raping Ash. "Not going to make any more films?" he taunts a teenage Ash. "You're still young enough... I used to be a fan of yours."

Image: Skip. Click for larger image.

Skip

Skip is a deceptively young and cute, yet very streetwise companion to Ash. He is one of the few people who Ash honestly loves and trusts. Skip is completely loyal to Ash, and will do anything to protect his friend, even if it means sacrificing his own life.

Dr. Meredith

Dr. Meredith, a shady gynecologist who performs illegal abortions for a price, becomes an unwitting ally to Ash as he pursues the mystery of Banana Fish. His receptionist, Ms. Brandish, has the dubious honor of being the first actual female character to appear in the manga (even if all she really does is sit around and look perpetually clueless).

Image: Alex. Click for larger image.

Alex

Alex seems to be the informal leader of the members of Ash's gang who are still loyal to Ash instead of Arthur. In volume two of the manga, he appears for the first time fighting alongside Shorter Wong to free Ash from Marvin's clutches. At the end of volume five, he pledges to ally himself with Sing Soo-Ling to go to war with Dino. In volume six, he mysteriously loses the markings on his face, and is finally named when Ash addresses him as "Alex." In the Rebirth guidebook, it states that Alex is always Ash's loyal "Number Two."

Willard Evanstine

Evanstine, the sleazy detective that prosecutes Ash for murder, is secretly being paid off by Papa Dino. "Everyone knows how small a cop's pension is," he says.

Image: Garvey. Click for larger image.

Garvey

Garvey is a big, gruff jailbird who delights in sexually abusing Ash while he is in prison.

Image: Nadia Wong. Click for larger image.

Nadia/Mardeer Wong

Shorter's sister, Mardeer Wong, works as a waitress in a restaurant called Chang Dai. She is just as perceptive and intelligent as her brother, although unlike Shorter, she always seems to be wearing an expression that is either merely dour, or downright sorrowful. She's not very pretty, though, and Eiji initially mistakes her for a man. Mardeer is deeply conflicted between her love for the cop Charlie and her loyalty to her brother. She is one of the few interesting, well-developed female characters in the manga so far.

Image: George. Click for larger image.

George

George is Max Lobo's lawyer. He's a friendly guy, but too honest at times, and quick to call Max an "idiot." (Although at times, Max really deserves it!)
